Continuations: Some Quick Observations on MegaUpload

Some interesting thoughts on the MegaUpload situation yesterday. I think that this addresses both sides of the issue well. What I mean by this is that he talks about how SOPA may be unnecessary because there are obviously prosecution processes already in place (although it seems the actual arrests were relegated to New Zealand, not the US). It also talks about how many of the people who overlap with the category of internet pirates, or hackers, need to be careful about what kind of message they send to their audience. While I, myself, support the efforts of Anonymous, I DON’T support further intervention in the open internet by the government. If what Anonymous is doing to send a message actually ends up galvanizing further intervention, I would be concerned. I do feel like the people at Anonymous, though somewhat vengeful, are very intelligent and so any actions they take should be decently calculated in terms of their long term, widespread effects. I’m interested to see where the future of the internet ends up. It’s weird to think we may be finding out sooner than we’d like.
